You can however (as coranns suggested) use the sidechain input feature of vocodex to use an alternate audio source/synthesizer to do the same job, albeit with more performance/recording flexibility (where you can use the piano roll to control what would then be the carrier synthesizer). There is currently no other method of control for the inbuilt synthesizer. With the Vocodex inbuilt carrier synthesizer (The keyboard and carrier selection at the bottom of the interface) you can use a midi keyboard only when Vocodex is focused/selected. If you have any questions feel free to speak up :) So in this case if you wanted to vocode in realtime, you would select the Carrier synth channel in the Channel Rack to be played with your keyboard, and use a microphone input with your voice to modulate it. Vocoding generally uses a synthesiser as the Carrier and vocals as the Modulator. This is done exactly how you would normally - by selecting the relevant channel in the Channel Rack, and pressing buttons on either your computer keyboard or your MIDI controller (although MIDI is preferable due to latency etc.). Therefore, to " control the notes of Vocodex" you just play notes from either the Carrier or the Modulator.
Vocodex works just like any other vocoder - you send it Carrier input and Modulator input, and Vocodex applies spectral/frequency properties of the Modulator to the Carrier using a series of bandpass filters. If you select a "Carrier synthesiser" at the bottom of Vocodex, you can choose which notes are played by left-clicking the notes, but this can't be controlled in realtime with any keyboard.
That means it only takes audio input and sidechain input, which neither your computer keyboard nor your MIDI controller can provide.
